United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to protecting and supporting refugees, forcibly displaced communities, and stateless people.

Established in 1950, its primary mission is to save lives and protect rights and and well-being of people who have been forced to flee their homes due to persecution, conflict, violence, or human rights violations.

UNHCR helps refugees by providing essential services such as shelter, food, water, medical care, and legal protection. It also works with governments and other organizations to ensure the safe return, resettlement, or integration of refugees into new countries. UNHCR plays a key role in advocating for international refugee laws and conventions, aiming to offer long-term solutions for displaced individuals.

The agency is involved in crisis response, and it operates in numerous countries around the world to assist those affected by wars, natural disasters, or other crises.

UNHCR’s vision is a world where every person forced to flee can build a better future.

Today, UNHCR works in 135 countries.
