{"id":233,"date":"2023-11-05T00:09:30","date_gmt":"2023-11-05T04:09:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unfamily.org\/?p=233"},"modified":"2025-05-10T01:50:53","modified_gmt":"2025-05-10T05:50:53","slug":"main-committees-of-the-general-assembly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unfamily.org\/?p=233","title":{"rendered":"Main Committees of the General Assembly"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The main committees of the United Nations General Assembly are: (1) First Committee (Disarmament &amp; International Security); (2) Second Committee (Economic &amp; Financial); (3) Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian &amp; Cultural); (4) Fourth Committee (Special Political &amp; Decolonization); (5) Fifth Committee (Administrative &amp; Budgetary); and (6) Sixth Committee (Legal).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>First Committee (Disarmament &amp; International Security): <\/strong>deals with disarmament, global challenges and threats to peace that affect the international community and seeks out solutions to the challenges in the international security regime.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Second Committee (Economic &amp; Financial):<\/strong> responsible for agenda items related to economic, financial and environmental affairs. Main issues addressed by the Committee include the following: -Macroeconomic policy questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian &amp; Cultural): <\/strong>deals with human rights, humanitarian affairs and social matters. The Third Committee meets every year in early October and aims to finish its work by the end of November.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fourth Committee (Special Political &amp; Decolonization): <\/strong>deals with a diverse set of political issues, including UN peacekeeping and peaceful uses of outer space.
