UNCTAD is a permanent intergovernmental body established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1964. The headquarters are located in Geneva, Switzerland, and it has offices in New York and Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
UNCTAD is part of the\u00a0UN Secretariat and reports to the UN General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council but it has own membership, leadership, and budget. It is also part of the\u00a0United Nations Development Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It supports developing countries to access the benefits of a globalized economy more fairly and effectively and helps equip them to deal with the potential drawbacks of greater economic integration. To do this, UNCTAD provides analysis, facilitate\u00a0consensus-building, and offer technical assistance. This helps them to use trade, investment, finance, and technology as vehicles for inclusive and sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
